Whew, what a week! NSBE 41 is in the books. For those out of the loop, each year NSBE has an Annual Convention. This year it was NSBE’s 41st Annual Convention in Anaheim, CA. This organization is near and dear to my heart. I have been a member since 2006 (I was late to the party). Most of my service has been given while I was in graduate school funny enough. This year, I was privileged to serve my second term on the National Executive Board as National Leadership Institute Chair. My responsibilities included leadership training for the society, conference planning among other things.
This year was my most well-rounded conference experience. I was able to explore the surrounding area, handle my board responsibilities and do light catching up on about 3-4 hrs of sleep per night for a week. I normally get 2 out of 3 with the same amount of sleep. I had a lot of first time experiences. I went sailing, saw whales, put my feet in the Pacific Ocean (which was freezing), went to Disneyland and walked around a racetrack. Some of my conference highlights included the Academic and Research Leadership Symposium (ARLS), career fair, professional development workshops, entertainment and meeting new people. The NLI committee was awesome! We conducted several engaging workshops for the NSBE Jr. and collegiate members. I did a lot of “Hi” and “Bye” going to and from events due to responsibilities. However, seeing everyone made me happy inside.
If you have never attended an Annual Convention, I don’t know what you are waiting on. Next year, it’s in Boston and I invite you to attend. It is an experience like no other. No amount of description can truly capture everything involved. I was late to the party but once I came, I never left. Feel free to look on all social media using #ReImagineNSBE and #NSBE41 to get different POVs. If you want to know more about NSBE, visit www.nsbe.org. I didn’t get many pics but here are a few! Enjoy!
